Kilbarri National Park
11 - 12 November 2022
On Friday we visited the Kilbarri National Park. We went to the Murchison River Gorge first, where there were several overlooks. Above Julie is showcasing a depiction of the wildlife found in the park at the Skywalk.
Here are the views from the Skywalk.
The second overlook was the Nature’s Window. The flies in Australia are pretty ferocious, we met a very nice couple, Mel and Bruce, who offered us some fly spray.
The third stop was the Z-Bend Lookout. There were a few trails down to the river from here, that could have been doable, but time was not on our side.
Now for something completely different… Julie had been feeling pretty rotten for a few days and finally realized that she was suffering from a sinus infection. So off we went to the Kilbarri Medical Center to get some drugs. The good news is that we don’t have COVID!! The most amazing was that after we talk to a tele-doc and got the prescription, we left the center with No Paperwork and Did Not Pay Anything!!
We spent the rest of the day on the coastal side of Kilbarri National Park. There were several spectacular lookouts. Above is Natural Bridge.
There was a wonderful boardwalk hike from Natural Bridge to Castle Rock (above). Man was it windy!!
Our next stop was Red Bluff overlook, where we ran into Bruce and Mel again. They gave us a good dinner recommendation.
Finally we stopped at Blue Holes for sunset. The tide was in, so you could not really see the limestone.
At Finlay’s, Anthony was morally obligated to order the BBQ Octopus tentacles since he loves calamari so much. Julie thought it looked disgusting, but tasted very good. She did not have the oysters, they are snot on a shell. Once again, we saw Mel and Bruce and talked with them for a bit. We asked them why Australians liked to drive under the speed limit, and they told us that in more populated areas, the Police are quite militant about enforcing speed limits. They will take pictures of your car, average the speed you were going and if its too high you’ll get a ticket or maybe even loose your license. They don’t have to pull you over, they use CCTV. The other cool thing they told us about, is that they are starting a truffle farm in Margaret River.. how cool is that?
