Melbourne

16 - 21 December 2022

We got to Melbourne after 8:00 pm, but were able to get dinner at the hotel.

On Saturday, we were invited to Brett Carter’s house for his family’s Christmas lunch. Brett is a former co-worker of Anthony’s, from their days with GSK. It was a lovely lunch. Brett’s family were very welcoming.

Melbourne Zoo - A Sumatran Tiger

We continued our tour of Australian zoos with the Melbourne Zoo. It was the biggest one yet, and once again we did not give ourselves enough time to see all of it.

That night, we met up Brett and his family, Joyce, Nathaniel and Malachi, for dinner and a show. We went and saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. We were all wowed by the special effects, they really made the play magical. We think we saw an abbreviated version, since it was just around 2 hours.

Monday was laundry!!! We bummed around Melbourne near our hotel a little and then met Brett and his family in the Acland area of St Kilda in southern Melbourne. Its a very artsy area, with very yummy bakeries.

On Tuesday, we once again got up with Brett and Joyce and went to the Healesville Sanctuary to see more animals. The high point of this trip was that we saw a Playtpus!!! Everybody was excited. They are smaller than Julie thought they’d be.

After the animal sanctuary, we went to the Soumah of Yarra Valley winery. We had a lovely lunch, and wine tasting. We could not have asked for better hosts than the Carters.

Tuesday night, after we had packed up, ready for the flight to Tasmania the next day, we went out and walked by the Yarra river, that flows through Melbourne. It was very festive.
