Aoraki, aka Mount Cook across Lake Pukaki

On Friday, we drove from Dunedin to Lake Tekapo. We had numerous views of Aoraki (Mount Cook) along the way.

Our Bed and Breakfast overlooked Lake Tekapo. The B&B was walking distance to the Blue Lake Eatery and Bar, where we had a sampler of Venison, Steak and Lamb along with a Summer Cherry for dessert. Anthony had a flight of Burke Brewing Company beer, the best of which was a Raspberry Goze. After dinner, Anthony went for a walk along the shores of Lake Tekapo and got some pictures (Julie was still not feeling well, so stayed back in the room). The hostess was very concerned about Julie being sick, even though Julie insisted that all it was was a sinus infection. Anthony had said she was very afraid of Covid.

On Saturday, we drove up to Mount Cook Village. We took a 4 mile hike out to Hooker lake and got a terrific view of the Aoraki. On the way we saw a monument to the mountaineers killed climbing in the park. Anthony saw a small avalanche on the way.

Tasman Glacier

Next we took a 1 mile hike (uphill, all stairs, Julie did not enjoy the climb) to view the Tasman Glacier (Julie did enjoy the view). Literally tons of icebergs had recently calved off of the glaciers into Tasman Lake. At a distance, it is hard to conceive the size of the icebergs.

The iceberg from the previous picture is to the right, the lighter one between the two gray ones.
