Torquay and Tintagel

Tintagel Castle

Friday Julie and Anthony drove from Canterbury to Torquay (pronounced Tor-key). On the way, we stopped to find the Cerne Giant, another human figure cut into a hill.

View of the Cerne Giant from the Lay-by on A352. You can see the trails we originally walked on in the side of the hill below the giant.

We walked up to the Giant, but couldn’t find it, then saw this sign. You cannot see the giant from the trail, but it was a nice walk.

Saturday we drove out to Tintagel (an English Heritage site), on the northern coast of Cornwall. According to Legend, King Arthur was conceived at Tintagel Castle. Walking to the castle, we felt like we were entering an Arthurian Legend. We were caught in a torrential downpour, and a few minutes later the sun broke threw. The views were breathtaking. A wonderful introduction to Cornwall.

Merlin’s Cave

We took the stairs down, down, down to the gift shop.

We walked about a half mile North along the coast to Barras Nose and got terrific scenes back to the bridge and castle.

B roads on the way to Dozmary Pool. Just past and abandoned airfield, taken over by the sheep.

Sunday, Julie and Anthony took a break, worked on the blog and called to wish Charles, Anthony’s Dad, Happy Father’s Day. We are staying at the Hampton by Hilton in Torquay, thanks to our friend Mark Welsh for the help with Hilton stays.

Maps, Anthony loves them.
