Geraldton

20 - 21 Nov 2022

On Sunday, we stopped at the 26 Parallel, which is important because insurance companies make boats move south of the 26th Parallel to avoid cyclones. We drove up to at an overlook just north of the parallel, where we found this creepy memorial.

Monday in Geraldton, we took an urban hike along the beach. Anthony nearly got squished by a cyclist (neither were amused). We stopped at the Western Australia Museum, and wathed another terrific 3D movie showing the wreckage of the Sydney II. One of the curators at the museum was a Belgian lady who had visited NC in 1982. She told us stories about the discovery of the Sydney II, the memorial and the history of the Batavia. We also missed the Lego Sea Wrecks display by a day, but will have a chance to see it in Sydney.

It was very windy along the beach, if you look closely, you can see Julie’s ingenious solution to keep the brim of her hat from flying up.

Lesson learnt: We stopped on our walk to get a milkshake. We learnt Milkshake (Au) = Chocolate Milk (US) Thick Shake (Au) = Milkshake (US)

Geraldton is home to a stunning memorial of the Sydney II which over looks the town. Later that evening we ate dinner at the Freemason Hotel Bar, which is definitely haunted and drove by the Cathedral, lit up for the evening.
