Auckland

23 - 28 March 2023

View of the city on the way into Auckland.

We stayed at the Hilton Auckland, which was located at the end of Princess Pier. It was in the middle of everything. We even wrangled a room with a balcony where, if we craned our necks, we could see the harbor. Pretty sure the hotel is in the picture above, but not sure where.

Went shopping for boats in the marina.

On Thursday we walked around the city and went up to the top of the Sky tower. It was a wonderful view, and we even saw some folks jump off of the building from the floor above us. It was like a 1000ft bungee jump on a cable. Anthony did not feel the need to do this.

We found our hotel from the tower.

Anthony saw online that there was another Weta tour in the Sky Tower, so of course we had to go.

Life sized Xenomorph from Alien

Limited edition sculptures, very pricey, but not as much as a boat.

Anthony gets interactive with the toys on the tour.

Bonus points if you can name the movie this prop is from.

Shots from a movie set Weta is developing (maybe).

Views from the balcony of our hotel room.

The hotel pool. No, we never went there, it was too cold.

Friday, we took a ferry out to Waiheke Island for a wine tour. Buy Anthony a beer and he will tell you about the Ferry.

Auckland from the Ferry

Super villain Lair on Waiheke. The trees slide over to let the submarine out.

One tree hill

We saw a boat with a built in trailer on the beach.

Sunday we took the train to Eden Park to see the Auckland Blues play. They crushed the Perth Western Force.

Trombone Quintet entertaining the fans on the concourse.

More sunset photos down at Princess Pier.

Our last day in New Zealand.

We had a late flight, so needed to kill the day, but we didn’t want to get sweaty walking around. We decided to go see a movie, but the theater was about a 20 minute walk. We wanted to try to use the electric scooters that we had been seeing through out our trip.

Well Julie didn’t make it. There is some debate about whose fault it was, suffices to say there was a right turn and a planter involved. To be continued…

Our Google treks in Auckland.
