Connemara National Park

After a long day on the Wild Atlantic Way, Julie and Anthony found dinner in downtown Westport.

It’s worth mentioning that we stayed in a shepherd’s hut while in Westport. It made the tiny house on the Isle of Skye feel spacious.

Diamond Hill

On Tuesday, we drove back down towards Kenmore Abbey to the Connemara National Park. Julie found a trail with terrific views, around Diamond Hill.

After our hike, we drove back to Westport along the Wild Atlantic Way.

On Wednesday, we started back on the Wild Atlantic way, north toward Sligo.

We circumnavigated the incredibly beautiful Achill Island

We stopped at this museum (kind of). The sign mentioned a neolithic site, and Julie thinks Anthony was thinking dinosaurs, or something cool. The place is called Céide Fields, it’s a big bog where the oldest known field system, in the world, exists. There were pathways that took you out to where the stone field markings were, but it was way too cold and windy to go and see.

Tree trunk recovered from the bog.

Another stop along The Way. Julie stayed in the warm car and Anthony scarpered to Downpatrick Head to take pictures.

From the car at DownPatrick Head

Driving into Sligo, you an see Queen Maeve’s Cairn on top of the hill in the distance.
