The Big Island
02 - 07 April 2023
On Sunday, we took the 30 minute flight from Maui to the Island of Hawaii. We stayed at the amazing Hilton Waikoloa Village.
On Monday, we explored the resort. Julie laid out in the loungers by the lagoon, while Anthony snorkeled. He saw lots of colorful fish and 3 different Sea Turtles swimming in the lagoon. The turtles especially liked hiding under the falls.
On Tuesday, we drove to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It was really rainy, so we didn’t do any long walks, to keep Julie’s cast dry. We drove down to the Holei Sea Arch dodged the rain to see the Arch.
We got some photos of the rugged environment around Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
On the way back to the resort we stopped by the Kau Coffee Mill and Anthony picked up 5 pounds of green coffee beans. He is very excited to roast then when we are back home.
And we stopped in Kona and did some shopping, including a replacement pair of Maui Jim sunglasses for Julie.
On Wednesday, we relaxed by the pool at the resort. There was a ring around the sun, which Anthony thought was very cool. He also went snorkeling outside the friendly confines of the Lagoon, and got scratched up on some rocks in the bay.
Thursday morning we got up early and saw the dolphin show down at the lagoon.
We had to go back to Kona that afternoon, looking for luggage for our purchases. You have to watch out for donkeys and goats on the road to Kona.
That evening we saw the sunset on the big island.
Here are the google tracks for our flight from Maui and drive to Volcanoes National Park.
