Cardiff Castle, lit for the Paul Heaton Concert

Julie and Anthony arrived in Cardiff on Monday evening to stay with our lovely friends Steve Austin and Sarah Hall, their children Lily and Daniel, Nola the dog and Mali the cat. We were welcomed with a terrific dinner, and Steve and Sarah helped us plan our time in Cardiff.

Ogmore Castle

Steve and Sarah both had Tuesday off, so we visited Ogmore castle for a walk around the ruins. We enjoyed views of the castle and then hopped on the stones across the Ewenny River.

The parking lot often floods at high tide, the above sign is a very understated warning. Liable = Is going to

Julie and Anthony hopping across the Ewenny River

You may notice that Julie is wearing socks and sandals. Her foot was very sore and she was doing little hopping.

Julie and Anthony wading and Nola skimming across the Ewenny.

You may wonder why Julie and Anthony are crossing in the river, and not using the stones. This is because Julie fell in while crossing the first time and this was actually easier. The only casualty was her phone, which was able to be eventually fixed.

After lunch we walked down to the sea, with spectacular views. We walked across the rocks looking for fossils.

Steve had gotten tickets to the Paul Heaton concert (formerly of The Housemartins and The Beautiful South) which was at the Cardiff Castle. Julie and Anthony are Beautiful South fans, and Cardiff Castle provided a terrific backdrop for the show.

On Thursday, Julie and Anthony drove into the Brecon Beacons. We stopped at the Old Barn Tea Room for tea and scones. The scones were almost as good as Anthony’s mom’s homemade biscuits.

Both Julie and Anthony like clotted cream!

Carreg Cennan Castle

Carreg Cennan Castle looked very gothic from the road. Julie was very concerned about climbing up to it, but the climb was not as bad as it looked.

Cold and windy

We climbed down into a cave under the castle.
